Chemistry Session FAQs

The purpose of a chemistry session is to get a fuller sense of your present circumstances and goals and expectations of therapy. And, you can get a feel for how I work in therapy.

A chemistry session can help you decide whether we make an effective team by giving you insight into how therapy with me works and how it’s different from other types of therapy.

Through an open dialogue, we will explore the possibility of working together. Some of the topics that we will cover include:

  • Clarify your needs and hopes.
  • Explain my approach; existential therapy.
  • Provide overview of the therapy experience.
  • Answer any questions you may have.
  • Determine if my style suits your needs.
  • Assess if rapport essential for progress exists.
  • Recommend next steps to find support.
  • Offer follow up resources if we are not a match.
  • The goal is your insight and empowered choice of care.

Absolutely not. I often tell my clients that therapy is the best gift you can give yourself. So it’s important to take the time to decide what is the best for yourself.

If we discover my support does not align with your needs, I am happy to refer you on to better suitable resources.

Let’s have a chat about it. There could be a range of reasons. Perhaps it’s about a misalignment of goals or that you do not like my style of working in therapy.

Discussing about it may provide me with a better understanding of how you are feeling. Ultimately, even if we do not end up working together, I will be in a better position to refer you on to someone who may be more suitable.

Feel free to ask for resources. It’s important that you know that if there’s something wrong with the fit, it doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you. We are in a relationship and it takes two hands to clap and come to a decision together.

My sessions are 50 mins for individual therapy and 50 mins for couples therapy

I offer the option of either online or in persons sessions.

I do not offer brief initial consultations. My collaborative approach is tailored uniquely to each client’s needs and essential for determining fit. An impactful first meeting requires adequate time for a thoughtful conversation, exploration of your reasons for seeking counseling now and hopes for our work together.

I currently do not accept direct insurance at my private pay practice. However, I can provide receipts for you to submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement of session fees.

The number of sessions required depends entirely on your situation, expectations and goals. I work long-term with clients on a journey of self-discovery and growth.

I do not offer quick solutions. You will start to notice positive shifts between 4 and 8 weekly meetings, while fully exploring presenting issues and gaining practical strategies commonly takes 3 to 6 months or more of committed work together. Our progress relies primarily on the client’s motivation for meaningful change and insight.

Absolutely. I adhere strictly to the requirements of the Data Protection Act and the ethical framework set out Association for Psychotherapists and Counsellors, Singapore.

All information disclosed in the therapy room is private and confidential except in extenuating circumstances where there is risk of serious harm to you or others.
