Hi, I'm Magdalen Cheng

Founder of Encompassing

My approach to therapy is simple. I believe that everyone must be allowed to live fully and with dignity. We can all be the best versions of ourselves in our personal and professional lives, and my mission is to help you build inner resources and skills to achieve this.

My Approach

My approach is a collaborative endeavor between you and me. It is my priority to establish a trusting and caring relationship, where there is a safe, confidential space for you to speak freely and openly without reservations.

Through our sessions, expect to gain more understanding of yourself and where you are in your life circumstances. You will also start making better choices and discover that you are indeed the expert of your own life.

My Training

I began my career in behavioural work, teaching children with autism and behavioural issues using Applied Behaviour Analysis. In 2014, I transitioned into the mental health field. Since then, I have gained experience as a volunteer and practitioner across different settings with a varied group of clients. These include Assisi Hospice, Health Serve, AWWA, Singapore Anglican Community Service (SACS) and Clarity Singapore.

Additionally, I am currently a fourth-year doctoral trainee in existential psychology and psychotherapist at the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling in London (in conjunction with Middlesex University). Upon graduation end 2020, I will be accredited as a counselling psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and I will be one of the first psychotherapists steeped in both existential and phenomenological work in Asia.

I am currently accredited with APACS (Association of Psychotherapists and Counselling Singapore) with a level 4 Certified Master Practitioner (A0248), the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) & UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy).

On my day off, you will find me honing my carpentry and ironmongery crafts as I turn trash to treasures.

When I talk to Magdalen I feel, listened to and seen. I feel she is interested in my experience and with her presence and questioning I am able to go deeper and open up aspects of my life that might otherwise remain hidden. I feel my awareness expands and clarifies and that feels releasing and exciting at the same time.
